Toothache relief?

What can I do about a toothache? It's actually my front top right tooth that hurts. It's been bothering me since yesterday. I have an appointment for a cleaning next week, and was hoping to hold out, and not make another dental appointment before that, thinking that when I go for the cleaning the dentist can look at my tooth and then we could set an appointment to fix it if need be. It's about 50% better today than yesterday, so I'm hoping it will continue to get better each day. I tried some of that orajel stuff on my tooth yesterday, but that didn't help. Nor does Tylenol or ibuprofen give me relief from my toothache. What else can I try? I'd be greatful for any suggestions.
Answer:
Be smart. Don't wait to see your dentist. You could have a tooth where the nerve is dieing. So while it feels a little better today you are taking the chance that it will become very infected, very swollen and very painful unexpectedly. The only person who can judge what is causing your discomfort is your dentist and while I know that you don't want to have to go twice, better safe than sorry.
It could be nothing at all. Or it could be something major.
Either way, you should see your dentist today, especially if you don't want to have any trouble over the holiday tomorrow.
If taking ibuprofen has not had any effect than you definitely have to be seen. You might already have an infection and require antibiotics and a stronger pain medication.
Remember, pain of any sort, in any part of the body, is an indication that something is not right and should be addressed immediately by the proper health care provider. I'd be interested to know what the result is.
The dentist had me take 4 200 mg ibuprofen which helped. that is the perscription strength
Severe dental problems start in simple bad cavity, bleeding or strange pain on one of your teeth or the gum line, but it could threaten your health and worst could kill you.
